If you are trying to get your web site up and running, and you want to make sure your target audience able to find you, you may hear a lot about keywords and how they can help. Some people have a web site that is great and powerful, yet no one is visiting, which can leave the owner scratching his or her head. The truth is that people find almost everything via search engines, and if the search engines are not sure what your site is about, they can not rank it with the right criteria. Search engine keywords are the most important tool a search can use to give relevant results with any query.
By nature, your web site should have the right keywords. The keywords are the main idea of your web site. If you are selling quilts, for example, the word (or keywords) quilt, quilt bedding, handmade quilts, or even quilt sewing crafts may show up naturally throughout the text on your site. When someone goes to a search and types in search engine keywords like “quilt bedding sets” your site should come up if you have that phrase on your web site. However, if you don’t, or do not have it enough, no one can find you, thus you lose sales to other sites that are ranked better.
The one mistake that is most commonly made is leaving search engine keywords off of a web site. Some people use programs that produce a lot of flash and a lot of images, and the text is included on the graphics. The searches can not read these so the words will not rank. You have to have more than this on your site for the search engine to understand what you are all about. Have plain text articles and descriptions of your service, product, or idea on your page, and think about adding a blog. This will give the search engine spiders something to read in order to find your keywords.
You may have to find some help with your web site if you think something is off. Use the major search engines like Google, Yahoo!, and Bing to see if you can get your site to come up based on some keywords that describe what you are offering. If you can not find your site, you don’t have to give up hope. You just have to have someone help you understand what search engine keywords are, how they relate to your site in particular, and how you can better incorporate them into your web page so that the right people find you thought search activity.
Some people can study up on SEO, (search engine optimization) on their own and do a pretty good job without any extra help. It often depends on how much time you have to devote to this. Others find that hiring a writer with SEO experience can help them get the right search engine keywords working for their site, and can also place articles online that drive traffic to the site as well. Do it on your own, or hire some help. Either way, done correctly, SEO can make your site more visible than ever, leaving you wondering why you didn’t do it sooner.
