You build your blog and it’s now live online. What you have to do now is focus on things that will make your site more visible. You have to make sure your site is found by people searching for information you offer on your site. A lot of pages have already been written about how poorly written articles, poorly edited and sloppy articles can sink a website. If you’re using articles that have been scraped or articles that already exist on another website, even if you own the website, will not help your site to rank. The quality of articles will show to Google and other search engines if enough care was given to building your site and focusing on the user experience. For websites that dropped from search engine results and ones that couldn’t increase their traffic because they show poorly on search engine results, then it’s time to go back and rate the quality of your site. If you don’t trust information on your site, how do you expect others to?

Search engines focus on the quality of a website in total rather than as pieces of a puzzle. Total user experience means that all pages will be evaluated based on the algorithms search engines use. This just proves a point that the home page does not make a website. Making sure that your website is shown on the search results is just one part of a whole set. From ensuring that your snippets are compelling and accurate to making your visitors want to stay longer is what you have to look at. The metrics that you use, whether it’s Google analytics or another software that you’re more comfortable with should give you accurate information that you can filter. Knowing how your site performed a week ago to three months ago will help you target better and achieve the results you want.
After the Penguin and Panda updates, a lot of webmaster complained that their sites fell off first page results. Google answered that this means that changes to the site’s content and linking are needed as some sites were deemed to be not following Google’s Terms of Service. If this is not the case for your site, then what made your site fall off the first pages is possibly that your keywords do not match what your pages are all about. Go back to your content. Tweak and improve them. Add helpful videos and links that give more in-depth information to your visitors. In fact, help them out. If they can’t find information from your site but use your site as a jumping point, then they’ll know where to go when they need the information again. A good user experience should be your goal and you’ll see an increased search engine ranking when satisfied users come back to your site over and over again.
